Jack Be Little pumpkins love warmth and space. Sow seeds indoors into small pots using peat-free organic compost. For best germination, keep temperatures at 20 °C or above and sow seeds point-side down, about 1.5 cm deep. Keep compost moist but not waterlogged until germination, then grow plants on in good light.
Harden off carefully and plant out once all risk of frost has passed, from late May. Plant in full sun, spacing plants 90 cm apart. Allow fruits to fully mature on the vine for the best flavour, colour, and storage.
Sow indoors: April to early June
Plant out: Late May to July
Harvesting time: September to October

Jack Be Little pumpkins are perfect for stuffing, roasting whole, or halved and baked. Their sweet, nutty flesh pairs beautifully with herbs, garlic, cheese, grains, and autumn spices. They’re also excellent roasted in wedges, added to soups, stews, and risottos, or simply baked and scooped straight from the skin - a true crossover between decorative and delicious.
The deep orange flesh works well in pumpkin pies and baked dishes. Due to its higher water content, we recommend puréeing and straining the flesh before baking. Traditionally in parts of Europe, the hollowed shell was even used as a natural soup tureen.
