  • The temperature must be at least 18C to ensure the best germination. Fill small modular trays with peat-free seed compost. Plant 50cm apart. Can be grown undercover or outside from late May to avoid frosts. Grow them up a string or support them with bamboo.

    Sow indoors: February to April

Plant out: Late May to July

    Harvest: August to November

Check out our Grow & Cook section for more growing tips.

  • As well as making an attractive garnish, they can be used in pies, puddings and ice cream. Delicious as a jam, jelly or chutney with cheese and cold meats. We love making a cape gooseberry curd with them and serving it on a crunchy-sweet Pavlova.
