Turk’s Turban squash loves warmth, sun, and space. Sow seeds indoors into small pots using peat-free organic potting compost, keeping temperatures at 20°C or above for good germination. Sow seeds point-side down, about 1.5-2cm deep, and keep evenly moist.
Grow plants on in good light, then harden off and plant out once all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with fertile, well-drained soil, spacing plants 90-120cm apart. Allow vines plenty of room to trail.
Sow indoors: April to early June
Plant out: Late May to July
Harvesting time: September to October

Turk’s Turban is far more than a decorative squash. Beneath its striking skin lies moist, golden-orange flesh with a sweet, nutty flavour often compared to hazelnuts. It roasts beautifully, works well in soups, stews, and curries, and holds its shape nicely when baked.
This squash is especially good for stuffing. We love baking it whole or halved and filling it with spiced mince, rice, lentils, or grains, then bringing it straight to the table as a centrepiece dish - dramatic, generous, and deeply comforting winter cooking.
