Cucamelons are easy to grow and love warmth. Sow seeds indoors in pots or modular trays using peat-free organic compost. Keep warm and moist until germination, which can take a little time. Grow plants on and plant out once all risk of frost has passed.
Provide support such as a trellis, string, or netting, as plants are vigorous climbers. Cucamelons thrive in a polytunnel or greenhouse but will also grow outdoors in a sunny, sheltered spot.
Sow indoors: March to May
Plant out: Late May to June
Harvest: July to October

Cucamelons are delicious eaten fresh, straight from the vine. Use them whole in salads, scatter through summer dishes, or serve simply with sea salt and extra virgin olive oil.
They’re excellent pickled like gherkins, added to tacos, or used as a garnish for cocktails and drinks. Their sharp, citrusy bite pairs beautifully with chilli, lime, fresh herbs, and soft cheeses.
