Celery Leaf Red-Stemmed thrives in sunny, well-drained spots and is well-suited to pots, raised beds, or open ground. Sow seeds thinly indoors into modular trays or pots filled with moist, peat-free seed compost. Sprinkle seeds on the surface and do not cover, as they need light to germinate. Maintain a temperature of 10 °C or above and keep compost consistently moist, watering from the base until true leaves form.
Grow seedlings on carefully, then plant out once well established. Harvest leaves regularly to encourage fresh growth. In its second year, plants will flower and can be left to set seed.
Sow: February to June
Plant out: May to July
Harvest: All year round

Red-stemmed leaf celery has a vibrant, savoury, peppery flavour and is best used as a seasoning herb rather than a stick celery. Finely chop the aromatic leaves into soups, stews, stocks, risottos, and sauces, or use them to lift salads, stuffings, and vegetable dishes.
The slender stems can be sliced for a gentle crunch in stir-fries or used as an aromatic base for cooking. It also makes an excellent garnish for Bloody Mary cocktails and can be dried for use through the winter.
