  • Broad beans are very easy to grow and ideal for beginners. Sow seeds directly into the ground or large pots in a sunny, sheltered spot. Space seeds well and water in after sowing. As plants grow, provide support and pinch out the tops once flowering begins to help deter blackfly and encourage pod set.

Sow: October to November or February to March

Plant out: 10 - 15cm between plants; 60cm between rows

    Harvesting time: May to July

  • Broad beans have a sweet, fresh flavour that shines in simple dishes. We love them lightly blanched and finished with olive oil, lemon, and sea salt, or mashed with garlic and herbs on toast. They’re excellent in risottos, spring salads, or paired with mint, peas, and feta.

For older beans, double-pod them for the best texture and flavour.
